This 1873 map showed that Thumb Lake and north of it were part of Evangeline Township which was a massive township...
no Chandler Township existed.
no Chandler Township existed.
Charlevoix was not always the county seat for Charlevoix County. Between 1867 to 1897 the Charlevoix County seat moved between Charlevoix, East Jordan, and Boyne City. In 1881 a proposition was even signed to move the county seat to Boyne Falls [see news article below]. By 1897 Charlevoix had won the favor of the people to become the county seat, and remains so today in 2014.

It’s a lot less work than it was when I was supervisor.-Miss Lila Flanders prints all the descriptions. I used to write them.” And, March 7, 1950: "Board of Review, new style. We are having it here- 26º & bright sun coming up... Reviewers to show up.- They came & had their business & we visited a lot, guess they didn’t change anything on H’s books- They brought their boxes of lunch so they were no trouble- left about 4 P.M."
Howard W. Wood's obituary stated that he had been Chandler Township's Supervisor for the last twelve years of his life,
so from 1939 ~ 1951.
